Allstate auto insurance to be effective after 3 days?

I just bought a car and need a new auto insurance. I got quotes on different insurance companies and allstate seemed good to me. Since I was not able to customize the coverage as I wanted on the online quote, I decided to talk to the allstate agent in peron at the retail location. They gave me the price and the coverage I wanted and everything seemed to be well until I found out that it takes for 3 days for my insurance to be effective. Is it normal?
I used to be with Geico which I had bought online and they gave me insurance as soon as I signed up and paid online.
